Take a break from screens, schedules, and everyday stress to reconnect with nature during a guided Forest Bathing experience with AARP Maine and Loon Echo Land Trust. Originating in Japan as shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," this wellness practice encourages participants to immerse themselves in the forest through mindful, sensory engagement with the natural world.
Unlike a hike focused on distance or exercise, forest bathing is about slowing down, breathing deeply, and being fully present. Participants can expect a slow, gentle walk of less than a mile, frequent pauses for rest and observation, sensory-based activities that engage sight, sound, touch, and breath, and opportunities for quiet reflection.
The session will be led by Laurie Bernier, Program Coordinator for Loon Echo Land Trust. A Registered Maine Guide and recreation therapist, Laurie has extensive experience helping people of all abilities enjoy the physical, mental, and social benefits of spending time outdoors. She is passionate about removing barriers and creating meaningful connections with nature through accessible outdoor experiences.
