Western Maryland Flood Recovery Forum

AARP Maryland is partnering with the disaster resilience nonprofit, SBP, and a panel of local organizations to host a two-part community forum focused on strengthening preparedness and supporting long-term recovery in Western Maryland following last year’s devastating floods in Westernport.

This event brings together experts, community leaders, and residents to reflect on lessons learned, share practical strategies, and highlight resources that can help communities better prepare for and recover from future disasters. The forum is designed to foster collaboration and ensure that Western Maryland has the tools and partnerships needed to build greater resilience. 

There will be two targeted sessions.

Session One: Local Leadership Session

This session is tailored for elected officials, municipal staff, and community leaders. Panelists will provide insights on emergency planning, coordination, and response, with a focus on how local leadership can strengthen community readiness, support vulnerable populations, and improve recovery outcomes. Lunch will be provided.

Session Two: Prepare. Respond. Recover. Community Forum 

Open to residents, this session will offer accessible, actionable guidance on disaster preparedness, personal safety, and recovery resources. Participants will hear directly from local organizations about how to create emergency plans, access assistance, and navigate recovery efforts effectively. Dinner will be provided.
