Legal Counsel for the Elderly’s Office of the DC Long-Term Care Ombudsman will host its Annual Community Education Forum, Breaking Barriers 2026, on October 7, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM EST. It is a free, fully accessible one-day virtual event, broadcast live from an in-house studio at AARP, and is designed to educate, elevate, and empower communities around the full spectrum of disability-related barriers: visual, hearing, motor, cognitive, and transportation-related.
The event opens with a powerful keynote from a resident of a long-term care facility, followed by six in-depth sessions offering free Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for nurses, social workers and long-term care administrators. Accessibility is built into every layer of the forum, including real-time Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioning, certified ASL/CDI interpretation, audio description, an accessible chat and Q&A experience.
Breaking Barriers goes beyond awareness to drive meaningful action on the systemic issues affecting people with disabilities.
