A Son's Final Salute: Service & Legacy

Join AARP Georgia and AARP’s Wish of a Lifetime at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights for a special Juneteenth program honoring perseverance, remembrance, and legacy.

The event will feature Stephan, a Vietnam veteran and son of a member of the historic Six Triple Eight— the all-women’s Army Corps unit deployed overseas during World War II. Although Stephan always knew his mother had served, it wasn’t until years after her passing that he discovered the full depth and significance of her service.

During this inspiring program, Stephan will share his personal journey in the military, as well as the powerful story of reconnecting with his mother’s legacy. Learning about her role in the Six Triple Eight deepened his understanding of her life and sparked a meaningful mission to honor her memory.

Through AARP’s Wish of a Lifetime, Stephan recently fulfilled a decades-long dream by traveling to England’s White Cliffs of Dover—a place that held special meaning for his mother during the war. This deeply personal journey allowed him to celebrate her legacy in a profound and lasting way.

Following the program, registered attendees will receive complimentary admission to explore the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

In recognition of their service and sacrifice, veterans and their families will receive priority registration.
