This series will offer up both the wisdom of dementia experts and unique perspectives of individuals who have personally experienced the impact of dementia. Discover the intricacies of dementia care, unravel the complexities of diagnosis, delve into available treatments for dementia and gain insight on the significance of addressing racial and ethnic disparities in brain health.
Part 1: Demystifying Dementia and the Six Pillars of Brain Health, will equip participants with a basic understanding of dementia and specific preventive steps people can take at any age to optimize their chances of maintaining their cognitive health. The six pillars of brain health include such lifestyle choices as getting high-quality sleep and regular exercise and maintaining strong social connections. We’ll also offer resources that individuals, families and community leaders can share to empower people who currently have dementia to continue living with joy, meaning and purpose.
Part 2: Perspectives on Dementia Care: Insight from Experts and Lived Experience will feature Dr. Jason Karlawish, director of the Penn Memory Center and head of the Governance Council of the Global Council on Brain Health, along with a group of retired physicians who now live with dementia themselves. Gain a unique perspective "from both sides" of the desk as these distinguished individuals share their personal experiences and professional knowledge.
Part 3: Understanding Parkinson’s Disease and Neurological Conditions will explore Parkinson's and other neurological conditions like Lewy Body Dementia. Gain a better understanding of these diseases, available services and treatments, and how to access them. Discover the latest advancements in medical research and therapies that can enhance quality of life. Empower yourself to meet the challenges related to these conditions and find support for yourself or your loved ones.
Part 4: Addressing Disparities in Dementia and Brain Health, we'll examine the importance and implications of recognizing and addressing racial and ethnic disparities in dementia care and brain health. This discussion will feature the Brain Health Equity report, presented by Sarah Lenz Lock, executive director of the Global Council on Brain Health.
