The Amoskeag Transcripts: Screening & Discussion

In the 1970s, architectural historian Randolph Langenbach and Clark University professor Tamara Hareven wrote, “Amoskeag: Life and Work in an American Factory City”.  Published in 1978, the book was the culmination of over 100 tape-recorded oral-history interviews that Langenbach, Hareven, and their colleagues conducted with former Amoskeag textile workers and officials. 

In June 1978, WGBH-TV in Boston produced a half-hour program called “The Amoskeag Transcripts” based on the work of Tamara Hareven and Randolph Langenbach. It explained what happened after the mills closed and the impact on Manchester’s population.
